I had lunch with a few friends over the holidays and one of the women's husband had weightloss surgery a couple months ago. She described his diet and the side effects of the surgery--side effects he'll have to live with his whole life--and let me just say IT SOUNDS HORRIBLE.
And really . . . it's just dieting, ya know? Except worse because if you overeat it's not just your self-esteem you sacrifice but your health and well-being. Well, you sacrifice those things when you're "just dieting" too, but . . . Gah. I do not want to be in that position. Ever. But it's also not a stretch to imagine that if I don't get myself under control now I might one day NEED a surgery like that. I would so much rather to diet now because I am in charge of myself and I can diet than later when I have to.
Okay, so here are my goals:
Lose 52 pounds in 2014. That's one pound a week. Come on, Ali. You can do that. Sheesh.
Add 500 steps to my daily goal every two weeks. Right now, my goal is 2500/day. If I add 500 steps to my daily goal every two weeks, I'll have added 12,500 steps. Dude. Do you realize what this could mean for me? If I'm walking 15,000 steps a day I'd be FIT. At least . . . way more than now!
I think, if I can work on slowly building my daily steps and still watch what I eat, then I really can reach my goals. Oh, and I quit Weight Watchers. I didn't like their app and all and kept going back to My Fitness Pal. So instead I'm just using MFP with my Fitbit One (sort of a pedometer on steroids). I'm totally KISS this year.
